by reZz (rezrezrez [at] rediffmail.com)
Humor, pain, performance and spontaneity mix on stage at Yoni ki Baat, the South Asian version of the Vagina Monologues this Saturday.

“Are there any white people out there in the audience tonight?”
[applause]
“Y’all people know you really got to stop posing for those yoga ads. That’s OUR job.”

This Saturday at the Amnesia on Valencia at 19th, will be a repeat of last weeks annual performance of “Yoni Ki Baat,” Hindi for Vagina Monologues...or pussy talk, if you like. The diverse performances by South Asian women touched on rape, immigration, love, gender identity, sex, and unspoken lusts. Representing a community often dismissed as conservative by conservatives and would be progressives alike, the South Asian Sisters collective is putting on its fourth production of Yoni Ki Baat in its mission to “resist all forms of oppression through art, dialogue, and grassroots political action.”

The event will begin at 6PM at Amnesia on Valencia at 19th St. Admission in $10, some proceeds benefitting Narika, a service for abused South Asian Women.
