ILWU local 10 voted at their last membership meeting to have a stop work meeting and port shutdown to support members of the IBU and MMP in their struggle against anti union Alcatraz Cruises. The local 10 membership recognizes this fight as their fight, that a non union ferry operation in the heart of the waterfront is a direct threat to their own jurisdiction.
Come support the union that took direct action against the US funded death squad government of El Salvador in the 1980s, refused to load cargo for apartheid South Africa, shut down the coast in support of justice for Mumia as well as in solidarity with the anti WTO actions of November 1999 in Seattle, and were shot by the Oakland PD along with demonstrators at the infamous anti war demo on the Oakland docks.
This fight is for everyone who has to go to work for a living and believes in social justice. Make solidarity more than just a nice word for speeches and resolutions!
