International Human Rights Day in Santa Cruz

In Santa Cruz at the Clocktower at 2:45 p.m. and Veteran's Hall at 4:00 p.m.

Recognize the importance of International Human Rights Day and the International Declaration of Human Rights.

The United Nations Association will lead a rally with speakers at the Clocktower. The theme is "All People Are Legal" or "Cada Persona es Legal." David "Woody" Wood will sing his song that afternoon, and Tim Fitzmaurice and Doug Keegan, Program director of the Santa Cruz Immigration Project, will speak.

Following the rally, the UNA and local chapter of Amnesty International will hold a reception at 4:00 p.m. at the Veteran's Hall on Front Street where they will honor students' who have participated in the annual "Why is the International Declaration of Human Rights Important Today?" essay, visual art and music contest. There'll be more songs by Robert Perala and food served by Gary Harrold and AI folks. Works will be on display and more information on human rights campaigns will be available.
