LIFE ON EARTH
by David Attenborough

In a chronological account of the flora and fauna of planet Earth over a period of 3,500 million years, viewers get a very good grasp of the basics of evolutionary processes. Whether recounting Life’s first journey from the sea to the land, the development of insects and flowers, or “The First Forests” and “The Lords of the Air,” David Attenborough’s enthusiasm is infectious. He guides us through “The Infinite Variety” of life from microbes to marsupials, via an unforgettable meeting with mountain gorillas, to conclude with “The Compulsive Communicators,” human beings. There are some four million different kinds of animals and plants in the world -- four million different solutions to the problems of staying alive. This documentary tells the story of how a few of them came to be as they are. It is also a joy to watch because of the sheer breadth of species (and geography) that is covered, and because so much wonderful material about nature is offered to learn about and understand! It conveys a sense of wonder at just how much life there is on Earth.

Before and after the films, everyone’s invited to indulge in our Humanist Tea House
