Save Oakland's Condo-Conversion Protections!
When: Nov. 28-4pm CEDA Meeting
Where: Oakland City Hall
(Come early to sign up as a speaker against the condo-conversion scheme.)
Oakland Councilmembers Brooks, Chang and De la Fuente have teamed up with realtors/developers to sell off Oakland's rental housing stock, under the guise of promoting home ownership.
Their scheme to gut Oakland's present condo-conversion protections, will shred 20 years of housing protections for Oakland renters!
The plan is to end the one for one replacement requirement, that currently requires a new apartment to be built for each rental housing unit thats been converted into a condominium.
The developers are pushing for 800 to 1,500 condo-conversions per year, resulting in evictions each time a condo-conversion occurs.
Less than 10% of Oakland renters can afford a pricey $350-$400 thousand condo-conversion!
The scheme will make thousands homeless, and the rents will skyrocket in Oakland and the surrounding areas as a result of a huge rental housing shortage this will create in the near future!
Join Oaklanders on Tue Nov. 28, at the 4pm CEDA Meeting at Oakland's City Hall, to stop the plan to sell off Oakland's rental housing stock to the highest bidders!
