Farmcore is a documentary that tells the story of San Francisco's legendary Farm, located in the Mission District during the 1980s. It documents the punk scene and the staff’s struggles to keep the doors open while battling a greedy landlord and hostile police. The Farm hosted some amazing hardcore punk shows that featured such bands as the Dead Kennedy’s, Bad Brains, Black Flag, MDC, DRI, Circle Jerks and Butthole Surfers, to name a few. After all other major punk clubs in the city had been shut down, the Farm raged on till late 1987, when it became an early victim of Mission gentrification and “live-work” loft conversion schemes. In its heyday, the Farm also provided a place for community gardens, an urban barnyard, an art gallery, child daycare center and a multicultural community space.
