The annual Transgender Day of Remembrance will be
observed in various cities this weekend. In San
Francisco, the San Francisco Transgender, Empowerment,
Advocacy, and Mentorship group is helped with a Day
of Remembrance event at Congregation Sha'ar Zahav, 290
Dolores Street on Friday, November 17 from 7:30 to
9:30 p.m. There was a special liturgy, music,
sermon, and a reading of names. All faith traditions
were welcomed at the service.

Still upcoming, SF TEAM also is involved in a new event in Oakland.
The Tri-City Health Center's Trans Vision program will
host its Day of Remembrance program on Sunday,
November 19. Organizers said the event marks the first
time that Alameda County residents have participated
in the ceremony at home, rather than attend one in a
neighboring locale.

The observance, which is free and open to the public,
begins with a reception at 4:30 p.m., followed by the
remembrance at 5 at Preservation Park, 1233
Preservation Park Way, within walking distance of the
12th Street BART station near City Hall. The event
will honor transgender and gender variant people who
have been killed due to anti-transgender violence in
the last year. Additionally, the event will recognize
HIV/AIDS and tobacco-related illnesses that have
disproportionately affected transgender people in
Alameda County. Keynote speakers include local
political leaders and other active community members.
