In 2004 opponents of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, with support from the U.S., attempted to oust him through a recall referendum. Venezuela Rising documents the referendum campaign by his supporters that ultimately proved once again the popularity of this controversial leader.

Professor of Negotiation and Conflict Resolution
Graduate School of International Policy Studies
MONTEREY INSTITUTE OF INTERNATIONAL STUDIES. He is co-author of the “Legal Delegation Report on Venezuelan Democratic Reform Movement featuring reports on meetings with diverse sectors of Venezuelan society 2006”.
ISAAC SANEY is on faculty, College of Continuing Education, Dalhousie University, and an adjunct professor, International Development Studies, Saint Mary’s University, both in Halifax, Canada. He is an academic and writer specializing in Cuba and is the author of “Cuba: A Revolution in Motion”.
CHRISTENE DeJONG is a second year masters student in Latin American Studies at UC Berkeley. Ms. DeJong studied in Venezuela in the fall of 2000, worked as the program coordinator for Pitzer College in Venezuela in 2002, and continues to return to Venezuela at least once a year. She has also co-produced a short documentary and written several articles and
papers on the political, social, and economic changes in Venezuela since the election of President Chávez.
