War in Iraq takes center stage in campaign rally
Saturday; Activists support anti-war candidates,
oppose those with 'blood on their hands'
SACRAMENTO – A major rally against the war in Iraq and for "peace
candidates" – the issue that is impact many elections around the country
– will be held SATURDAY beginning at 11:45 a.m. (through 1:30 p.m.) at
ARDEN FAIR MALL (Heritage entrance).
A news conference will be held at 11:30 a.m., featuring congressional
candidates opposed to the war in Iraq.
Following the rally activists are expected to fan out across the area with
"End the War Now" election materials.
Among activists rallying against the war is CODEPINK, which in recent days
has pursued 1st Lady Laura Bush, and pro-war candidates.
Advertising spots by one congressional anti-war candidate, Jeff Kravitz
(G-Sacramento) in the 5th District focus on incumbent Doris Matsui (D), who
has stated she doesn't like the war in Iraq but continues to vote to fund
it. The spots charge she has "their blood on her hands" in reference to the
nearly 3,000 U.S. war dead.
