Zapatistas Call for November 1st Actions in Solidarity with Oaxaca
EZLN Calls for Nationwide Shutdown in Mexico for November 20th
The Zapatistas have called for a November 1st shutdown of all Zapatista-held territories in Mexico in solidarity with the struggle of the people of Oaxaca. They are calling upon people all over the world to hold similar actions on that date. They also announced this weekend that through the Sixth Commission, the EZLN has begun consulting with political and social organizations and individuals in the Other Campaign, in order to coordinate joint solidarity actions across Mexico, leading to a nationwide shut-down (general strike) on the 20th of November. The Zapatistas are broadcasting to the world their message that "the people of Oaxaca are not alone," and that they support the people of Oaxaca: they demand "Ulises Ruiz out of Oaxaca!", the immediate withdrawal of the federal forces from Oaxaca, the immediate and unconditional freedom for all detainees, the cancellation of arrest warrants, and more. A Day of the Dead benefit concert for the Zapatistas will be held in Oakland on November 2nd. John Ross, author of "Zapatistas!" will be at Northtown Books in Arcata on Friday, November 3rd beginning at 7:30 PM.
