by friend of brad
Brad Will was a wonderful friend of many, spirited longtime
activist and Indymedia journalist who was shot and killed by government
paramilitaries on Friday as he supported the blockades of the popular
movements in Oaxaca, Mexico. Come out to remember, take action and support
the movements in Oaxaca.

On Friday, the October 27, Government affiliated armed paramilitaries
attacked teacher union-led protest blockades, killing NYC Indymedia
journalist--a dear friend of many and a longtime dedicated frontline
activist-- Brad Will and two other activists-- Emilio Alonso Fabián and
Eudocia Olivera Díaz. On Sunday October 29 the Mexican President Fox used
this government initiated violence as a pretense to send in thousands of
armed Federal Police to break up the blockades and occupy the city of
Oaxaca. Armed with automatic weapons, teargas, water cannons, and
bulldozers confronted the peaceful defiance of the popular movement,
killing at least two local activists Roberto López Hernández and Jorge
Alberto Beltrán.

Actions, occupations and vigils are being held around Mexico, the US and
the world this week; over 20 across the US, 12 were arrested today at the
Mexican Consulate in NYC. Please come out--as Brad did--and stand with the
people of Oaxaca.

The broad based popular movement, APPO (Popular Assembly of the People of
Oaxaca) is incredibly hopeful, marks a departure from politics as usual
and offer important lessons and models for making the deep changes we need
in the US. In his last dispatch Brad will wrote:
what can you say about this movement -- this revolutionary moment -- you
know it is building, growing, shaping -- you can feel it -- trying
desperately for a direct democracy -- in november appo will have a state
wide conference for the formation of a state wide assemblea estatal del
pueblo de oaxaca (aepo) -- now there are 11 of 33 states in mexico that have
declared formation of assemblea populares like appo -- whats next
nobodies sure -- it is a point of light pressed through glass -- ready to
burn or show the way -- it is clear that this is more than a strike, more
than expulsion of a governor, more than a blockade, more than a coalition of
fragments -- it is a genuine peoples revolt -- and after decades of pri rule
by bribe, fraud, and bullet the people are tired -- they call him the tyrant
-- they talk of destroying this authoritarianism -- you cannot mistake the
whisper of the lancandon jungle in the streets -- in every street corner
deciding together to hold -- you see it their faces -- indigenous, women,
children -- so brave -- watchful at night -- proud and resolute
