Peace Action of San Mateo County will present Andrew Lichterman, a lawyer and policy analyst for the Western States Legal Foundation, a non-profit, public interest organization which monitors and analyzes U.S. nuclear weapons programs and policies. Lichterman will speak on "Nuclear Generations: Iran, North Korea, and the United States" focusing on the relative nuclear ambitions of the U.S., Iran and North Korea, and their implications in the world situation.
The talk will be largely event-driven, as stories play out between now and the 16th regarding the U.S. sending battleships to the Persian Gulf and Iran, the world's reaction to North Korea's recent nuclear test, and the U.S. midterm elections.
Lichterman's current work focuses on the purposes and impacts of U.S. nuclear and other strategic weapons programs, including their effect on global nonproliferation efforts. We all have our hands full in dealing with the changing world situation; his insights are sure to be useful.
