Special 10th Anniversary Commemoration, featuring
Jeff Chang, hip-hop journalist and activist, author of "Can't Stop Won't Stop:
a history of the hip-hop generation;"
Former State Senator Tom Hayden, 60's activist and author;
and a special performance by Aya de Leon, spoken word artist and director,
UC Berkeley's Poetry for the People.
Presented annually to honor the memory of Mario Savio (1942-1996), spokesperson for
Berkeley's Free Speech Movement of 1964,
and the spirit of moral courage and vision which he and
countless other activists of his generation exemplified; to promote the ideals and
values he struggled to advance throughout his life; and to recognize and encourage young activists striving
to build a more humane and just society.
