PROTECT CALIFORNIA ELECTIONS:
VOTE FOR DEBRA BOWEN FOR SECRETARY OF STATE
We all remember the unfair elections in Florida and Ohio. It COULD happen here in California.
From Jeffrey Killeen, Swing State organizer, 2004 Kerry campaign
To engage in widespread election rigging, the GOP must hold three state offices: Governor, Secretary of State, and Attorney General.
The Governor’s office is required because you can’t do anything in state government without the Governor being aware.
The Secretary of State is required because he or she controls the machinery of the election process, and can engage in widespread disqualification of voters.
The Attorney General is required because the Governor and the Secretary of State would have to bend or break the election laws. They need to know that the Attorney General is not going to file a lawsuit.
In California, we are currently in danger of losing ALL THREE of these statewide offices. (LA Times, New Poll has Angelides 9 points behind Schwarzennegger Oct 16, 2006; Mercury News, Will GOP ride governor's coattails? Oct 18, 2006; Sacramento Bee, Lawsuit claims Brown ineligible to serve as attorney general October 19, 2006.) This could spell serious trouble in 2008.
Secretary of State candidate Debra Bowen is running on a platform of ensuring fair elections and non-hackable voting systems. Debra Bowen will champion fair and accurate elections not only in California, but throughout the country.
