Activist/Musician Dana Lyons Sweeps through Humboldt County
Dana Lyons is performing two concerts as a benefit for the Environmental Protection Information Center. He is coming to the north coast on a global tour to raise awareness of the Earth’s few remaining temperate rainforests—of which Humboldt is the southernmost of North America’s share. Decimated in the process of industrialization and continuing development, they now remain only in Tasmania, New Zealand, Alaska, British Columbia, Chile, and the Pacific northwestern U.S. There will also be a slideshow by Pat Rasmussen of the Inland Temperate Rainforest Network. Dana's hilarious song "Cows with Guns" hit the top 40 country chart in the '90s. "I am an Animal", "TV God", and "Ride the Lawn" are older favorites. Recently, he's been touring with Jane Goodall and together they put out a CD entitled "Circling the World", inspiring giant global celebrations for Peace. His song and children's book, "The Tree", is a must for every child's bookshelf who lives near a temperate rainforest.
The performance is Wednesday, October 25th, 7pm at the Bayside Grange, south of Arcata at the corner of Old Arcata Road and Jacoby Creek Rd. Admission is sliding scale of $10-20. We'll accept the Humboldt Exchange Community Currency, or Humbucks, and the show is all-ages. Call Greta at 825-6775 if you can help volunteer or offer carpooling.
