MONTEREY: A nation-wide “The World Can’t Wait” rally is scheduled for Monterey Windows on the Bay, Thursday, Oct. 5 from 12 noon to 8 PM. Local organizers have asked people to walk out of school or take the day off to enjoy a BBQ and speeches that seeks to “Drive out the Bush Regime.”
The Monterey County coordinator of CodePink, Hanan Shawar, who recently returned from Crawford, Taxes to support Cindy Sheehan, said the rally is to protest Bush’s new law that legalized torture and severely restricts habeas corpus.”
With planned rallies in over 128 American cities, a host of Hollywood stars, singers and authors have endorsed the event, including Edward Asner, Harry Belafonte, Daniel Ellsberg, Gore Vidal and Martin Sheen.
“Face it. The Bush regime is remaking the world into an Orwellian world,” Shawar said. “It’s time we end this aggressive war and the assaults on our rights at home.”
Speakers are planned for 5 PM to include local peace activists.
The national The World Can’t Wait organizers recently published a full-page ad in USA Today rebuking the Bush administrating, stating that his “regime does not represent us and we will drive it out.”
