The second annual Santa Cruz Bicycle Movie Night starts off with a Mystery Ride to the movies, starting downtown Santa Cruz at 5:30pm, at the corner of Cooper and Pacific. A ride, two great films, short bike films, bicycle valet parking, hot cocoa, great company -- don't miss this!

Friday October 6th, 8:00pm
Railroad Tracks at Fair Ave, Santa Cruz
(Free, of course!)

In the film B.I.K.E., Anthony Howard began to make a film about New York’s Black Label Bicycle Club and found himself vying to become a member of the group. Black Label is known for living a lifestyle centered on building bikes together, riding, eating, and sometimes living together. Black Label is more than just a bike club or a lifestyle – it is life. This is a rare look at a way of life that may challenge your own.

In Caravan Prague, an anarchist bicycle caravan searches for the intersection of Utopia and Everyday Life while riding five-hundred miles across Europe to a protest against the IMF/World Bank.

PLUS a Mystery Ride, bike valet parking, intermission, urban wasteland, and great company.

BRING lawn chairs, blankets, pillows, friends, wine, & food to share for intermission. Donations are greatly appreciated and directly support the project.

SUBURBAN WASTELAND LOCATION: S on Hwy 17 to Hwy 1, Hwy 1 north to Mission St, L on Fair Ave after Feral Donuts, walk a short way along the RR tracks to the right.

by solidarity with the sickly!
Hey --

GDI rocks. Thank you to all of the volunteers and creative minds who set up everything and find the great flicks. This night looks GREAT.

In keeping with the spirit of bicycling (=healthy environment AND people), please DON'T SMOKE during the movie. If ya gotta do it, please get up and walk away from the area of the crowd and building behind the folks. Here's why: when you smoke there, it just hangs there LIKE A STALE, NASTY FART because there really aren't any big breezes coming through Santa Cruz at night. For a lot of us, it really fucks up our bodies. (I got a sinus infection from the last time I was there and then got a cold right after that because I was already run down.) I am trying to ride a lot more, but with asthma *and* being sick, it makes things really difficult. I've talked with a lot of other people who also have asthma, allergies and chemical sensitivies who also fight this stuff, so I know am not alone.

Please help out your friends by reminding them of these things when they want to light up.

Yo, thanks. Really.

Thanks for this approach to making change even within our own community.

And of course during the "community announcement" portion of every GDI event before the intermission, you are welcome to get up and make your request. People won't necessarily be obligated to heed it, but you can ask people to respect your health this way and build solidarity with the sickly, as you put it.

We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
