Get a rope! South Texas Latinos invade the Bay
A taste of San Antonio is coming. It’s not Breakfast Tacos, but it’s the next best thing! Last April M.A.C.L.A., The National Performance Network, and La Peña introduced audiences to madmedia/RESET through their production of Pocho/a! This October, Galeria De La Raza, located in San Francisco’s Mission district, will present, “What Are You Doing Tonight?”
The San Antonio based collective is back. By weaving together staged dramas and video satire, this multimedia performance blurs the lines between TV’s romantic sensationalism and the not so glamorous day-to-day drama of making relationships work. Helping to guide the way is DJ Love Notes, the soulful mystic and host to one evening in the lives of ordinary people.
This witty and refreshing social commentary questions love in a time of War, rising tensions on the US/Mexico border, and the pop-culture ideal of “getting lucky.” Do politics and love mix? What can REALTY TV tell you about true love? “What Are You Doing Tonight?” begs to ask, and the answer is both honest and hilarious. Be sure to catch this act while the tortilla’s warm and the salsa’s still hot!
The Reset Collective and madmedia seeks to engage audiences through innovative and refreshing audio, theatrical, and visual techniques to critically and thoughtfully explore the subjects presented. Our mission is to continue in the tradition of our ancestors by insfusing teatro carpa with technology and contemporary themes. We seek to give a voice to the new generation of socially conscious children of the new movimiento.
Tickets: $9-$15 sliding scale
