The African People's Solidarity Day Committee will hold a press conference and rally outside of Tiffany & Co. on Union Square as part of a National Day of Action Against the Diamond Trade. This is one of a several rallies taking place nationwide to educate the public about the violence and oppression intrinsic to the diamond industry.
The concept of "blood" or "conflict" diamonds has been promoted by the DeBeers cartel in response to threats to its monopoly on the diamond supply; but since the late 19th century, when British colonist Cecil Rhodes founded DeBeers Consolidated Mines in southern Africa, the impoverishment, oppression, slaughter, and / or enslavement of Africans perpetuated by DeBeers itself has enriched whites via Africa's stolen resources.
APSDC consists of whites who seek a principled relationship with Africans wherever they live or have been dispersed, working under the African leadership of the Uhuru Movement to support the global African struggle for political and economic self-determination, reparations, justice and unity.
