Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 7th for SVTC’s 24th Anniversary Benefit where we will celebrate the release of our book, Challenging the Chip! The event will be at the DeAnza College Kirsch Center, one of the finest examples of cutting edge green building design that uses renewable energy technology. There, guests will have the opportunity to hear from book co-editor, Ted Smith (SVTC’s founder) and an international group of activists and writers, who will share their stories of coming together in workplaces, communities, and across borders to challenge the electronics industry on public health and environmental impacts. A concurrent forum will include presentations from:
• Marissa Jacott – Greenpeace Mexico
• Sanjiv Pandita – Asia Monitor Resource Center, Hong Kong
• Wenling Tu – Taiwan Environmental Action Network, Taiwan
• Leslie Byster, International Campaign for Responsible Technology, Portland, Oregon
• Amanda Hawes – Worksafe!, San Jose, California
• David Pellow – UC San Deigo
In addition to honoring the book authors and others in our community who are advancing our goal of a sustainable toxic-free future around electronics, SVTC Executive Director, Sheila Davis, will share SVTC’s ongoing efforts to move the vision in Challenging the Chip, including our national e-waste legislative work, emerging technology and chemical research, campus activism, community empowerment work in the Silicon Valley, and the launch of a new website to build an online network.
