Federal officers from Immigration & Customs Enforcement, or ICE, conducted pre-dawn raids September 7 & 8 in Watsonville, Santa Cruz, and Hollister. Dubbed "Operation Return to Sender," the sweeps netted 107 undocumented immigrants, mostly from Mexico, but also people from El Salvador, Guatemala and India. Doug Keegan is director of the Santa Cruz County Immigration Project. He spoke with Indynewswire's Vinny Lombardo, via telephone, about the recent ICE raids in Santa Cruz, and Monterey Counties.
