107 Locals Arrested in ICE Sweep - 44 Deported So Far
According to media reports, 107 people from Santa Cruz, Watsonville and Holister have been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in a sweep over Thursday and Friday. Of the immigrants, mostly from Mexico, but also from El Salvador, Guatemala and India, 44 have already been deported without prior access to lawyers. The rest are currently in custody (where?). Many of those arrested in "Operation Return to Sender" have lived in the United States for the majority of their lives, have homes and U.S. born children.
The Diocese of Monterey is holding a press conference on Wednesday at 3:30 at the Resurrection Church in Aptos.
Tens of thousands have been arrested, and hundreds have been deported this year by I.C.E.

EMERGENCY PROTEST IN RESPONSE TO THE IMMORAL ARRESTS AND DEPORTATIONS OF SANTA CRUZ, WATSONVILLE AND HOLISTER RESIDENTS
These raids serve only to intimidate and harass the immigrant community. The capitalist ruling class performing these actions is simply striving to maintain their exploitaition of this community, exploitation that is evident in poor working conditions and low wages.
Full amnesty for all immigrants now!

What were they arrested for?
The INS continues it harassment of our local Central Coast Community. Reports from fellow comrades have placed INS or ICE officials outside of Cost-co on Saturday and outside of the Flea Market on Sunday. These immigration officials were clearly seen using racial profiling to apprehend and question specific members of our community. This must stop. Tonight at 8pm the Santa Cruz Anti-imperialist league along with a representative of the Brown Berets will be meeting at Cafe Pergolesi to finalize different emergency response tactics to the continuing assaults on our community. This meeting is open to anyone.

ICE raids, House Bills Pass, Specter Stands Up for Comprehensive Reform!, Senate Fence Vote Monday

In the past several days, ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) has
conducted a series of raids throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware, as part their
latest enforcement project “Return to Sender”. The project was
launched in May. Local police were involved in some of the raids – we
are not yet clear if this was only for people with existing criminal
convictions.
Yesterday afternoon, Philadelphia ICE held a press conference to
announce that they had arrested 115 people in the raids. 4 of them had
criminal convictions. The raids are expected to escalate as more enforcement
teams are added.
