Mark your calendars for a nite of cool art and rockin’ bands to support a good cause.

Saturday nite August 9th the Balazo Gallery will kick off a month long art display of local womyn artists featuring Indybay/KPFA's Christina Aanestad's photographs from the South Central Farm and Black Mesa reservation and Caroline Lee’s oil paintings. The nite will feature the Chicano/cumbia rocksteady of Orixa, Native American hardcore by Chest Full of Arrows, anarcho-punk by the Last War, acoustic music from John the Baker, and DJ Tozz Grave spinning all your favorite punk, rock etc. tunes. Proceeds go to support indigenous families resisting displacement from Black Mesa, Arizona.

Saturday August 9th at the Balazo Gallery 2183 Mission St. near 18th St. (415) 255-7227. All Ages. $8-20 sliding scale, no one turned away for lack of funds. Doors/art show at 8pm. Bands 9pm to midnight.

The proceeds go to support Dineh (Navajo) indigenous resistance to relocation at Black Mesa, Arizona, where over 15,000 Navajo have been displaced from the land since the 1970’s. A few hundred remain and live under harsh living conditions. Money raised will go to a Thanksgiving Caravan this November to help with last minute home repairs and other projects before the winter hits. The caravan is hard work but well worth the time taken out of our daily lives to stand in solidarity with the indigenous of this stolen land and to learn about thier struggles and traditional ways.

For more info on the Bay Area and Los Angeles Thanksgiving Caravans contact the Vox Populi Collective at: vox.populi.collective [at] gmail.com

For more info on other caravans or the issues at Black Mesa go to http://www.blackmesais.org

Hope to see you all there!
