Surrounded by devastating natural disasters, political upheaval, and a national social funding crisis, it is easy to think that positive change is beyond the realm of any human’s capability. Not so! challenges the award-winning Beat Back Bush Workout, a call to action created by a collective of 15 women dedicated to encouraging their generation to get involved in national issues. The Beat Back Bush Workout is an educational, informational, and motivational video that seeks to ignite the Hip-Hop Generation its fight for social justice. Using the language and rhythms of hip-hop, the video addresses a plethora of issues and policies including: abortion, the war, and globalization. Inspired by music videos and other contemporary media, the video features dance, kickboxing, yoga, jazzercise, break-dancing, hip-hop, animation, original spoken word and music. This will be followed by a performance protest challenge, offering an opportunity to learn more about and utilize “kinetic activism”- an arts based socio-political activism.
