DECLARE PEACE - STOP BECHTEL
Ending the war in Iraq IS the number one issue for the American people and the people of the world and for the US elections in November 2006.
You and your organization can join us to build a sustained popular movement with high visibility that will end this war.
Here's our plan on how we can work together to end the war in Iraq:
1. Sign on to the Declaration of Peace. (http://www.declarationofpeace.org)
The Declaration of Peace is a pledge by individuals and organizations to take nonviolent steps for the immediate withdrawal of US troops and to engage in peaceful protest if a comprehensive plan to end the war is not established and begun by September 21, 2006, International Peace Day, just days before Congress adjourns for the fall elections.
2. Build up the Declaration of Peace movement before September 21, 2006
* Lobby the Bush administration and Congress to end the war.
* Initiate and participate in marches, vigils, and nationally coordinated phone-ins and email campaigns
* Prepare for September 21, 2006 by participating in public Declaration signings, organizing Declaration-inspired events, and attending nonviolence trainings that will be scheduled across the United States.
3. Take action to Declare Peace between September 21-28, 2006 through daily waves of nationwide mass civil disobedience and other creative nonviolent actions.
4. Keep going through repeated waves of civil disobedience and other nonviolent actions for the ensuing six months until March 19, 2007, ending four years of war and occupation in Iraq.
We need EVERYBODY... youth groups, community groups, labor unions, faith-based groups, immigration rights groups, human rights groups, food coops, environmentalists... EVERYBODY to join this movement.
