Arab puppet regimes provide 1st line of defense for Israel

by irna (reposted)
A Middle East analyst here says that in his opinion the Arab puppet regimes are providing the first line of defense for Israel by allowing it to victimize the people of lebanon and Palestine.
Speaking to IRNA, Egbal Jassat, who is also the chairman of the South African Media Review Network, said that the world community in general and the Muslim community in particular are angered by the disappointing reaction of the Arab regimes to the criminal behavior of Israel in Lebanon and Palestine.

"We are deeply disappointed with the reaction of the countries in Africa but particularly within the emblem of the Arab league and the OIC that they have failed to respond to the urgency that this matter requires."
"At the same time, we are not surprised, because in my believe, these Arab regimes are providing the first line of defense for Israel", he added.

He warned that such an approach fails to recognize the fact that population themselves which are subject to these governments are seizing with anger and frustration at their governments.

"They have the same fear that Israel has for popular movements that challenge their illegal status and which explains why countries such as Saudi Arabia as one of the closest allies of America in the Middle East as well as Egypt and Jordan would have their opposition directed against Hamas and Hezbollah."
Jassat said the the Muslim community is very much encouraged by the Lebanese resistance and by the fact that they have not allowed one of the objectives of the Israelis which is to create internal division in Lebanon to prevail.

"In the last 10 days, the resistance has demonstrated its capacity to defend itself and its people against severe odds", he said.

"By standing aside and allowing the Lebanese people, including the resistance, to be forced into succumbing, would make us countable in the crimes that are committed by Israel," he added.

He said the South African people have a historic imperatives that compel them to take a position outside of the multilateral fora and extend their support to yet another struggle against apartheid.

"The apartheid state of Israel was imposed on an innocent and indigenous population by force and that alone brought changes in the GeoPolitical and social equations that existed in the middle east".

"What the world is witnessing in Lebanon and Palestine today is the continuation of that same policy and the manifestation of the Israel's persistent approach to impose it's apartheid policies in the region."
"The Arab regimes, by leaning to these policies, will set themselves for popular uprisings because the people on the street are not going to accept it at any time".

" they have not allowed one of the objectives of the Israelis which is to create internal division in Lebanon to prevail. "

Good for moral, enables a declaration of victory, but may be far off the mark.

I would not be all that sure that the continuation of a divided Lebanon where the gorvenment is too weak to control the country is an Israeli objective. I think the present situation where one of the Lebanese factions can be "at war" while the rest of the country can shout "we're innocent, you are attacking the innocent" is what Israel does not want. I rather suspect that Israel would prefer a united Lebanon with a firm "national unity" government. EVEN IF HOSTILE.

What you need to keep in mind is that Israel has little to fear from a Lebanon that can NOt claim "we can't prevent border clashes". Israel has a sufficiency of military superiority that the more conventional the conflict the more to her advantage.

Understand? If Lebabon DID have a strong government in control and then following a cross border raid the Israelis pounded the shit out of them in conventional "resumption of hositilities" (*) you folks out there would have no legitimate gripe.

As things stand now the gripe IS legitimate because the Lebanese government lacks the power to control Hezbollah and everybody knows this. Israel is in effect taking advantage of a technicality (Hezbollah holds some portfolios, is "in government") but this is AT LEAST questionable as clearly the rest of the Lebanese government lacks the power to expel Hezbollah.

(*) Technically Lebanon has been at war with Israel since 1948. All we have had since then are armistices and cease fires often lasting years with sporadic resumptions of hostility.
