On Monday, July 24, a group of grandparents, sponsored by Grandmothers Against the War and the Mt. Diablo Peace Center, will try to enlist at the recruitment centers in Pleasant Hill. As an act of love and concern, they will offer themselves as replacements for military personnel in Iraq.
Part of a rapidly growing national movement, the grandparents are outraged at the deaths of over 2500 and the wounding of almost 20,000 U.S. military personnel. They want their children and grandchildren to come home and the occupation of Iraq to end. They are willing to put themselves in harm's way because they have been fortunate enough to have already enjoyed full lives. They hope that by enlisting they can speed the return of our brave young people and call attention to the disastrous U.S. policy in Iraq.
War veterans, DVC students, and singers, among others, will attend the Pleasant Hill demonstration,
All those who share the passion of the grandparents are invited to join with the group to show our concern for our young people far from home and our demand for an end to the failing U.S. policy in Iraq
