The "War, Occupation, and the Arts of Resistance" film series will open with the films "The Real Face of Occupation", "Dance of Death", and "The Art of Resistance".
"The Real Face of the Occupation": How U.S. military occupation looks from the other end of the gun barrel. Was Abu Ghraib an exception or merely an extreme? What is life like under occupation? On-the-ground footage shows the humiliation and dehumanization inevitable in a colonial situation.
"Dance of Death": The American military in Iraq: lambs led to slaughter or centurions for the Empire? Either way, U.S. troops are locked in a deadly interaction with the people of Iraq. Soldiers and their families speak about their lost loved ones and against the war.
"The Art of Resistance": Shows the growing impact of artists and cultural performances that have invigorated and enlivened resistance to America’s imperial war on Iraq.
The films are part of Deep Dish TV's 12-part series entitled Shocking and Awful: The Grassroots Response to War and Occupation. The series addresses the implications and consequences of the U.S.'s military actions in Iraq. The series also shows how people are mobilizing through art, actions, and international law. Each film is 30 minutes.
The films will be followed by a discussion.
Cost: Suggested donation $5 to $15
Sponsors: Peninsula Peace and Justice Center, World Centric, and Peace Umbrella of Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto
