Sacramento Protests Assault on Palestinians
Responding to the recent Israeli siege on Gaza and humanitarian crisis resulting from the US-Israeli imposed starvation campaign of the Palestinian people, demonstrators will be standing in support of the Palestinian people on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at 16th & J Streets in Sacramento from 4 pm to 6 pm.
The demonstrators will be demanding an end to US support of Israel and the Israeli Occupation Forces' (IOF) assaults on Gaza. The local demonstration, initiated by the National Council of Arab Americans and Sacramento Area Peace Action, is being held in conjunction with similar protests taking place throughout the country. Please bring signs, candles, and slogans.
Over 30 Palestinian men, women and children have been killed in what has become the bloodiest week in Palestine since the beginning of the Intifada of 2000. IOF's heavy artillery and high explosive missiles have been raining from US-fighter jets on bridges, power plants and water supply facilities in the Gaza Strip - the most densely populated region on Earth - a population denied even its daily bread and the most basic of medications at the peak of a US-Israeli imposed international starvation campaign on Palestine.
While the media diverts the attention of its viewers to the captured Israeli solider, no mention is made of the of the nearly 9,000 current Palestinian political prisoners, over 350 of which are children, in Israeli prison camps. Similarly missing from the discussion is the illegal kidnapping of Palestinian leaders, "arresting" more than 64 elected Palestinian Legislative Council members, city mayors, cabinet ministers, and lawmakers by the Israeli government.
