The Atenco screening last Friday was a real success! We managed to raise over $150 to send to the most needed political prisoners in Atenco and Oaxaca. Many thanks to the speakers from el Caracol de la Mission, la Collectiva Zapatista Ramona, and everyone who came and participated.
This FRIDAY at 8pm, everyone is again invited to Station 40, for a community dinner to meet and discuss what groups are already doing, and what more can be done, in response to Atenco, Oaxaca, the Other Campaign and other local and international indigenous and people of color's struggles in defense of their land and culture.
You are welcome to bring more food + drink to share, and/ or come by earlier to help cook:} And as before, please help spread this invitation to anyone you think might be interested. (and of course it's free;}
****************************************************
Also, just a reminder of several upcoming dates-
*July 2nd- Mexico's presidential elections
*July 4th- Immigrant Justice groups in US hold press conferences,(Oakland)
*July 15th- Bay Area Forum on Immigrant and People of Color Unity
*July 15th- G8 Russia, focus on energy and climate change
*Late July- delegates from Consejo Indigena Popular de Oaxaca- Ricardo Flores Magon, (CIPO- RFM) touring west coast.
*Sep. 4th- Labor day, NATION-WIDE MASS MOBILIZATIONS for Worker and Immigrant justice
*Sep 19th-21st- IMF/ WORLD BANK Singapore
*August (30th?) Hurricane Katrina Anniversa
* Delegation to Chiapas- Colectiva Zapatista Ramona
*Sorry, I know I've left out many dates. Please bring more info and ideas.
Much is going on, both here and there, and it seems like the best thing to do besides holding film screenings is to help build a community of resistance here in the Bay Area. We really hope you can make it :}
