Peace Initiatives Challenge the Logic of War
On Thursday, July 13, at 7p.m., a Reception and Presentation
to benefit the Fellowship of Reconciliation's Colombia Peace Presence Human Rights team will be held at the home of Bert & 717 Walnut, Santa Cruz
Team member Patricia Abbott will show a short film from her time in the peace community in Colombia. FOR Task Force on Latin America and the Caribbean staff member John Lindsay-Poland will accompany Patricia. John has visited Colombia numerous times over the last ten years. Fruit, dessert and coffee will be served. Patricia Abbott has served on the FOR's Colombia Peace Presence human rights observation
team for a year and a half. Living in the rural Peace Community of San Jose de Apartado in a conflicted zone and working with other peace initiatives throughout the country, Patricia has been witness to both horrific violence and remarkable and diverse initiatives by peasants, women, indigenous, and youth, to forge a nonviolent path in
Colombia's conflict, to which the United States sends more than $600 million of military aid annually.
Co-sponsored by Three Americas and the Resource Center for Nonviolence. Donations will be requested. For more information, 423-1626 or
