Thursday Emergency Protest
Head Start Threatens Workers’ Health Care Benefits
Thursday, June 15, 2006
12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM
Head Start HQ - 408 East Lake Avenue
Watsonville, California
From the North take Main Street (Rt. 152) to the Plaza. Go East on East Beach Street past high school. Go left on Laurel. Go 2 blocks to East Lake. Go right to Head Start HQ
Workers Unite As More and More Employers Attempt to Erode Our Health Care Safety Net
Starting June 17th, the Santa Cruz Head Start Agency threatens to cut off payments on health care premiums for more than 50 child care workers.
The parent corporation, the Santa Cruz Community Counseling Center, claims to be a socially responsible non-profit dedicated to worker participation. Yet, they violate labor agreements, refuse to provide financial information, and bombard workers with a constant stream of abuse.
For some workers, who make less than $9.00 an hour, it’s the difference between putting food on the table and health care. Send a clear message to the Monterey Bay Central Coast area that we will not allow employers to erode our standards of living.
