Juneteenth Folsom 2006
Juneteenth Folsom 2006, "Our Journey Towards Freedom" will celebrate authentic history of William Alexander Leidesdorff, Jr, "African Founding Father of California" and the golden legacy of people of African ancestry in the Sacramento Valley River Basin.
The State of California officially celebrates Junteenth on the 3rd Weekend of June by Legislative Statue. The original 1856 Juneteenth, post-Civil War notice in Texas ending chattel slavery, is often a confusing event not shared in context of the National signifigance of "Our Journey Towards Freedom."
In 1844, William Alexander Leidesdorff began to operate Leidesdorff Ranch. His foundation of development in the region balanced economic development with environmental concern and could serve as a model of 'cosmopolitian elegance and high culture' in today's marketplace of ideas.
Leidesdorff Plaza was dedicated in May 1966 in Historic Folsom. Short sighted modern develop threatens to eclispe and/or destroy the remaining historic elements of national signifigance.
Leidesdorff Store, Pony Express Site, Historic Stage Coach Line Stop and most signifigant the First Railroad in the West, Sacramento Valley Railroad line face a difficult challenge for survival.
Juneteenth Folsom, "The Journey Towards Freedom" will be an opportunity to collectively showcase authentic California History through collaborative exchange.
