Activists are planning a large protest at the California Democratic
Party Convention to oppose leading Democrats' support for the war in
Iraq and the death penalty as well as their opposition to immigrants'
rights.

For example, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who will speak at the convention,
continues to support the occupation of Iraq and recently voted to
re-authorize the USA Patriot Act and Steve Westly and Phil Angelides
both support the death penalty.

Protest initiators include Nativo Lopez, president of the Mexican
American Political Association, Barbara Becnel, co-author and advocate
for Stan Tookie Williams, Todd Chretien, Green Party candidate for U.S.
Senate, and Peter Camejo. Many more will be announced soon.

Organizers are encouraging all people in California, no matter their
political affiliation, to come to Sacramento to let the Democratic
Party leadership hear about issues from stronger environmental
protection to abortion rights to gay marriage to union rights to three
strikes to the crises in our public schools and health systems.
