May 1st Immigration Rights Rally, March, Boycott
Details to be Released Thursday in Sacramento;
Event Part of Massive Protests Nationwide
SACRAMENTO - A coalition of immigrants rights groups - planning a major
rally and march here as part of the nationwide May 1 Boycott - will hold a
briefing for all media outlets Thursday at 10 a.m. at La Raza Galeria
Posada (1421 R Street).
Campaign Against Unjust Immigration Laws (CAUIL) - a coalition of
organizations representing immigrants, Latino students and community groups
- will release details of a daylong event May 1 which begins at Southside
Park and will include a march to federal buildings.
Immigrant rights organizers - including students who are planning to
walkout of classes - will participate in the news conference.
At the Thursday briefing, CAUIL will also explain what many immigrant
rights groups believe must be done to resolve problems with U.S.
immigration policies.
CAUIL will provide background on the massive May 1 activities, which
include a boycott of work, schools and consumer activities by millions of
undocumented immigrants, and supporters to demonstrate the vital role
immigrants play in the U.S. economy.
