Author Rafaelito Sy was born in the Phillipines in 1967 and immigrated to the United States in 1985 to pursue university studies in Boston and then in Paris. His debut novel, "Potato Queen" is a story about the segregationist relationship between Anglos and Asians in the Bay Area's gay community in the 1990s.
