Our country is three years into a war with no end yet in sight, and millions of hard-working Americans live in fear that "globalization" and "outsourcing" will destroy their jobs. War and economic insecurity are social afflictions that have become all too common for America's working class. These afflictions, which mean suffering and death for people here and in other countries, are not the foul fruit of mysterious causes. They are byproducts of a social system, just as mechanical failures are the byproducts of bad engineering or worn-out parts. Capitalism is worn out as a progressive social system, and like anything else that has served its purpose and outlived its usefulness, it must be replaced before it does irreparable damage to the world and all that is in it. We would not entrust our safety to a worn-out car, to a worn-out refrigerator or a worn-out gas stove. We should not entrust our future safety and happiness to a worn-out social system. It's time to "shop around" for something new. The SLP believes the "something new" that fits the bill is socialism. Allow us an hour or so of your time to explain why we think so.
