Update on the Bush Protests in the Bay Area

by Sal Lood
Here is a quick update on the protests today against Bush's visits in the South Bay Area:

Bush was scheuduled to visit the Hoover Institute, the Conservative Propaganda "Think Tank" group, at Stanford University today. Students, community members and even some musicians showed up to protest and closed the roads leading to the Hoover Institute. Bush's caravan was forced to reroute their trip and had to meet with Hoover officials off campus. Some protestors were arrested; no information about the amount and identity of protestors was available to this writer at this time.

The Cisco Systems meeting of Schwarzenegger and Bush happened as planned, but protesters showed up and reportedly lined at least two city blocks. During the meeting with Schwarzenegger, Bush denied California's request for federal disaster relief assistance, dispite the fact that Schwarzenegger has declared approximately seven California counties as disaster areas. Considering the boost Schwarzenegger has given to the Rebublican party, this move by Bush could be construed as a slap in the face. Politically speaking, who knows what this will mean for Schwarzenegger's involvement in the Republican national party.

No one has posted photos of either the San JOse or Stanford protests. What's up with that? Do ALL the Indybay photographers live in San Francisco, and can't make it to the hinterlands?

Hey, Granny!

EVERYONE is an indymedia photographer and journalist. Please don't expect specific volunteers to report your story unless you've contacted them beforehand. If you and your friends are going to be at an action, why not report on the event yourself? A person on the front lines of a protest will have a different perspective than someone standing in the designated "press area." All perspectives are valid. As a friend of mine likes to say, none of us have all the answers, but together we can come up with some!

If you don't have a digital camera, maybe someone else in your group could share theirs with the rest of the group. If you notice that you don't have as many photographers in the South Bay, please encourage people in your area to start documenting events and sharing their material with the indymedia network.

When you spend so much time on an action, I think it is important to not leave coverage to the corporate press. As you've probably noticed, most papers are not reporting the real headline from yesterday's visit -- Standford Students Block Bush's Visit.

Thanks for posting and your hard work, Granny!

Aren't these known as "jackbooted goons?" They sure are sacrificing a hell of a lot for their lousy stinking paychecks. Their last chance at self-respect, for example. Hey clowns: do you imagine for a second that GWB is anything other than your MORTAL ENEMY?!? Are you STOOPID?? If you were real heroes you'd break out the machine guns, waste the Secret Service (also your mortal enemies), and kill George nice and slow. Saw his limbs off with gunfire and cauterize the stumps with an acetylene torch, then get REALLY cruel, that sort of thing

Do you WANT to get your house raided? Jesus. Ever heard of security culture?

I think protest by it self has done little if nothing to end the war so what is the next step for the anti-war movement? What about mass organised civil disobedience? When will all the anti-war organizations make civil disobedience their new tactic?

The strategy is to keep people hungry and in near poverty so that they can be exploited.

If the gang in green would of had a chance to earn an honest living, they would never committ crimes for the criminal classes.
