On April 29th, 2006, Free Mind Media Collective will celebrate the first aniversary of the opening of our community resource center with a PARTY! Our mission as a collective is to promote the free exchange of radical ideas and to foster a culture of resistance dedicated to social change in Sonoma County.
In the past year, we’ve provided a community meeting space, free internet, a lending library, and access to thousands of alternative books, magazines, videos and CDs. The infoshop, located at 546 Pacific Ave, near the Santa Rosa Junior College, serves as home for events supporting local artists, musicians, and political organizing.
Every bit of this work, starting in the Spring 2005, with the renovation of the building, to the organizing of the aniversary party, was accomplished by volunteers in our collective and with help from the community at large.
Some highlights from the past year include a Class Matters workshop, anti-racism and Know Your Rights trainings and author readings by Jeff Ott and Kristin Williams. We have also had the pleasure of hosting some amazing art shows by women, sonoma state students, political prisioners and graffiti artists as well as providing a venue for the music talents of Riotfolk, KRS ONE and many others.
