Dowd is a radical economist, economic historian, currently a professor at two universities in Italy, the author of more than a dozen books, and lifelong political activist. Doug calls himself a loose-jointed Marxist and full-fledged Veblenian--he's the People's Economist. His latest book is The Broken Promises of America.
