MILITARY OFF UCSC - TUES, 9AM!

by Students Against War (counterrecruitment [at] yahoo.com)
Please forward widely...
**********NO RECRUITS! NO TROOPS! NO WAR!**********

TUESDAY 4.11.06, 9:00 AM
McHENRY LIBRARY
MARCH TO CONFRONT THE RECRUITERS!

Military recruiters will be coming back to UCSC on Tuesday
at our bi-annual Career Fair.

As students, faculty, and community members who strongly
oppose the representation of recruiters at our University,
it is our responsibility to take actions against the war
abroad, the war at home, and all future wars.

This is a call out. UCSC Students Against War is asking
for representation from students, faculty, and other
community members in protesting military recruiters on our
campus. This is our chance to show how the war effects us
all!

Please wear all black in solidarity. Also, bring banners,
signs, and any other visual representations.

Student power! Community power! People power!

I agree totaly and the millions in federal and state funding can dry up too. No recruiters = no tax dollars. Lets see what tuition would be without it. Freedom of speech only if you agree with me. Why do people want to restrict the career choices of anyone. People a free t choose any career path they wish, military included. I just hope when the Big One strikes either San Fran or Santa Cruz the goverment has the right mind to refuse to send in the National Guard to assist with earthquake releif. After all with all the various leftist community groups they should be able to get along fine without the damn military and all those nasty fuel guzzeling, pollution creating trucks and such capable of carring thousands of gallons of potable water a day. when the "Big One" strikes I think the National Guard troops should be given an extended leave and not bother you poor people in the Bay Area while it burns to the ground.

While I find it perfectly acceptable for folks to march and protest against recruiters, what type of tactics will they use when they ‘confront’ them? Are you going to try and stop other students who are interested in speaking with them from doing so? Are you going to try and silence them from putting their case forward?

I would hope that a real reverence for free speech and the rights of others who do not share your views will be observed.

"Why do people want to restrict the career choices of anyone."

Unfortunately this is what the military already does with their discrimination of against Gays. Not that the military is an acceptable career choice, but discrimination is wrong everywhere.

Sorry, but murder for imperialism is not an acceptable career choice.

Iraq had nothing to do with September 11th and if the U.S. was honest about what they are putting Saddam Hussein on trial for, they would say it was for the nationalization of the oil and using some those revenues for healthcare and education. Hussein committed a crime against capitalism by not keeping the people down at the economic level that U.S. allies like the tyrannical monarchies of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia do, with all oil profits flowing directly to multi-nationals and royalty

The blood dripping hands of U.S. imperialism have no right to occupy, imprison, and torture Iraqis. The U.S. has now put puppet tyrants with death squads in power in Iraq that are propped up by the terror of the guns, bombs, torture chambers, and missiles of the U.S. military. Instead of working in the torture chambers of the imperialists revolutionary socialists call for the capture of war criminal George Bush, call for the military defeat of the United States in Iraq, and take the side of rank and file soldiers who refuse orders and revolt against this imperialist war.
by Steven Argue
1. The U.S. government is not setting up democracy in Iraq. They have set up an Islamist puppet government that has set Women's rights back decades and has functioning death squads against the opposition.

2. The U.S. war, occupation, puppet government, and economic policies are the single biggest cause of suffering in Iraq, not Steven Argue and other radicals who said all along that the U.S. should not invade.

3. Likewise there is no blood on my hands. I did not start this war, the mentally challenged war criminal George Bush did that.

4. As for dictators, which was it that cared enough to evacuate an entire province when a life-threatening hurricane was about to strike, and which dictator left his people to die. Fidel Castro did the evacuation, George Bush left his people to die.

Still Mark falsely accuses me. I do not think that the socialist revolution in the United States should copy the system in Cuba, I think that socialism should be more democratic, but I also have my eyes open enough to U.S. propaganda to see that Castro and Chavez are not the enemies that we are being told they are. Just as the U.S. had no right to invade Iraq, the U.S. has no right to threaten, harass, attempt coups, and blockade Cuba and Venezuela.

5. As for Mark’s challenge that I should talk to people that have come back from fighting in Iraq. I have done it. In fact I make it a priority. I will assure you that there are many in the armed forces that have seen what the U.S. is doing to the people of Iraq and regard it as criminal.

Murder for imperialism is not an acceptable career choice!

U.S. Military off campus!

U.S. Out of Iraq!
by SNA (Secret Noodily Appendage)
You didnt address his point. What about Federal funding. If the military recruiters are forced off campus, should the government then be allowed to pull the plug on the funding?
by informed student
Protests don't threaten federal funding. In fact, John Roberts said this himself during the Supreme Court proceedings. Both the university and students can protest as much as they want without risking a dime.

School administrations just can't outright BAN recruiters. That doesn't prevent students from kickin' 'em off, though.
by Steven Argue
I did address Mark's points, and he never said anything about funding. Now I think "informed student" has answered that question raised by someone else.

Ok, let's see how long it takes to get deleted this time. I think you guys can do better than 15 minutes!

The double speak about debate is hilarious.

How much hate in your mind does it take to deny disaster relief ?

"How much hate in your mind does it take to deny disaster relief?"

It's not that I hated those colored people. Nobody could have predicted that the levees would break.
