Watsonville High Walk Out
Watsonville High Schol students walk out on March 28th to show opposition towards prop.
Watsonville High students walked out again today for the second time during our break time. A student posted a bulletin on a site which expressed their thoughts of the walk out and were very hurtful and expressed in an "angry" way [anti-immigrant]. Someone decided to print it and post around school which infurried student of immigrant desent. By this incident, many students were mad including myself which made us want to stop this and make a point. What that point is, im sure we not all agree but yet we all walked out for the same reason to make a statement about immigration. I dont regret walking out. After going to youth group tonight at my church i was pretty much "attacked" of why i shouldnt of done that. Yet, i feel like it was right. We [students] didnt mean to cause "violence" or "public disturbance" but yet of course there were a few break outs here and there that were made big deals of which trust me if you went to high school they would be NOTHING. [fact: i attended Tracy High School last year so its not just Watsonville High!!!]
Anyways, cops got aggressive and so did some students.
The point is the walk out, it meant something, or at least to me it did.
Walking out does say alot though because you actually get to have a visual of all those who do oppose of it.

FANTASTIC PICS! TELL ALL YOUR FIRNEDS TO POST VIDEO AND PICS!
When I saw that picture of the student who fell trying to run away from the cops' batons, it really made me angry. These students are just trying to have a peaceful protest and the cops gotta be fuckin' disrespectful assholes.
It's time to sue the City of Watsonville 'cus these cops are outta control.

from the huelga of the 80s to the walkouts of today, watsonville continues to amaze.
if the cops wont leave you alone, go occupy the city hall, or better yet, the mayor's house.
looks like there's a lot of hope in the <18 crowd. it's a shame that college-age kids don't seem to care very much. look at france today - no equiv in the USA...
Its not that college students do not care, its that many of them are on spring break!
sergio you just made the lamest excuse I ever heard. They can't march cause they are on vacation?? Wake up dude, if their on vacation they have no excuse not to march since they are not in school and not at work, they have all the time needed to stand and march.
It's a shame that UCSC didn't have a prescence in the walk outs. Not that it was needed, but to show support. The sepperation between north and south county is rediculous considering it's only a 13 mile stretch. And it is spring break, and students do go home because most of us aren't from the central coast. But still, there is a gap between the university and Watsonville And it would be nice to see the gap bridged, because we have some politically conscious and socially motivated people in both places. But still, it's great to see the youth of Watsonville walking out against an issue that probably hits really close to home. If I was in town I would have been there. In respect and sloidarity with everyone that participated.
Even though UCSC is on spring break right now, there have still been UCSC students at both the immigrant rights march in Santa Cruz and in Watsonville. We didn't have a huge banner saying 'we're UCSC students,' but a few of us were there nonetheless - much more on the SC march, but a handful in Watsonville too.
And don't forget... when UCSC students go home for break, many of them are participating in the marches in their hometowns - the big one in LA, the demos in SF, etc.
The student walkouts have taken most everyone by surprise - which is absolutely wonderful. But it makes it harder to know where to plug in and be supportive.
