Watsonville Police Repressors and a Racist Culero

by ~Bradley (bradley [at] riseup.net)
On March 25th, Watsonville Police Department officers, including M. Ridgway, monitored and harassed the participants in the March For Peace and Immigrant Rights. At least one individual was singled out and surrendered his identification to officer Ridgway on demand. Officer Ridgway then passed the identification on to an officer driving an SUV and using the camera in the SUV to film the demonstration. The person who surrendered his identification was later issued a citation and is supposed to appear in court. He is apparently being charged as an organizer of the unpermitted march.

On March 25th, thousands of people marched through the streets of Watsonville as part of the 241 march for peace from Tijuana to the Mission District in San Francisco. While calling for an end to war in Iraq, the most people were focused on calling attention to HR 4437; one of many anti-immigrant bills making its way through Congress.

HR 4437 would make it a felony offense to be in the U.S. without proper documentation. This would push undocumented immigrants further underground, and increase the potential for exploitation by employers. This bill would also criminalize nurses, teachers, clergy, social workers, and anyone else who aids, assists, or otherwise has regular contact with undocumented immigrants.

The piece of shit racist fuck pictured above decided to spend part of his Saturday afternoon by shouting, "Go back to your country Indians" to two women who were crossing Freedom Boulevard. I realized that he was stuck at a red light, so I decided to see what this culero looked like and take a photo. He got out of his truck and approached me to say that I did not have permission to use the photo I took of him sitting in his truck. Well, that photo did not come out anyway, but this one turned out just fine. Thanks Culero. He followed me for a little while, but I kept walking and forgot about him. He should be glad I didn't get a photo of the information on the side of his truck advertising his business.
