Sarah Weintraub,
Fellowship of Reconciliation Bogota office coordinator

For the past two and a half years, Sarah Weintraub, a young woman from the San Francisco Bay Area, has been witness to an extraordinary experiment. Despite relentless pressure from armed actors on the right and left, including the massacre of seven peace community members a year ago, the peasant farmers of San Jose de Apartadó in Northern Colombia remain steadfast in their refusal to take part in Columbia’s ongoing civil war. Sarah is a member of the Fellowship of Reconciliation’s Colombia Peace Presence. She has also worked with peace initiatives by youth, women, indigenous people, and others.

Sarah is eager to share her experience of living in Colombia and working alongside these communities. Their nonviolent resistance, courage, perseverance and hope in the midst of war offer a seldom-heard message for us all.

Sarah will be accompanied by John Lindsay Poland, Coordinator of the Fellowship of Reconciliation Task Force on Latin America and the Caribbean. John has visited Colombia numerous times over the last ten years.
