Peace Fresno Press Conference
There was a major development in the Peace Fresno infiltration story today. In this report is the press release from Peace Fresno announcing the Press Conference and video from the press conference.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Press conference TODAY at 5 pm ---- PEACE FRESNO
TODAY AT 5 PM AT THE FRESNO CENTER FOR NONVIOLENCE
The Center is located at the southeast corner of Van Ness and McKinley Ave., just south of Fresno City College.
Peace Fresno responds to Attorney General Bill Lockyer’s finding that Fresno Sheriff’s Department engaged in illegal surveillance of the nonviolent political group.
Camille Russell and Dan Yaseen, past presidents of the organization, and Lisa Solomon, the current President, will be available for interviews and comments regarding the violation of the civil rights of the members of the group by the Fresno Sheriff’s Department.
In July 2003 the California Attorney General ordered California law enforcement agencies to refrain from infiltrating groups where there is no evidence of criminal activity. The Fresno Sheriff Richard Pierce has refused to comply with the AG order saying that the Sheriffs Department has the right to spy on any public religious or political group in the name of fighting terrorism.
Peace Fresno has never found to be involved in illegal activities other than jaywalking. Peace Fresno is working closely with the ACLU to determine what action they should pursue with regard to this case.
