International Conference on the Struggle Against the Wall and Occupation in Palestine
This conference Feb. 20-21 will bring together people who support the popular non violent Palestinian movement to take part in workshops about the history and methods of non violent resistance in Palestine. It will focus on the practical aspects of the struggle by sharing the experiences and lessons of such struggles at different locations in Palestine.
Direct action and participatory democracy in the struggle against the Wall being built by the Israeli government and heavily protected by the army are much in evidence at the small village of Bil’in in the Occupied West Bank, where the group Anarchists Against the Wall has been especially active in recent months in weekly, sometimes daily confrontation with the Israeli military.
Several groups have come together to hold an international conference Feb. 20-21, 2006 in Bil’in. North American activists can learn from this struggle. See the call below.

The focus of the discussion will be practical and the workshops should lead to a joint action being initiated by the participants in the conference.

Its amazing how many Palestinian terror attacks directed at Israeli civilians the security barrier has stopped. Maybe thats why the Palestinians are so opposed to it. It takes away their bargaining chip.
If the Palis think the wall is bad, wait till they experience Transfer. As soon as the war against Iran get started, Iran will pay the Palis to start another uprising. Unfortunately for the Palis, the Israelis have had quite enough, and will use the war with Iran as a pretext for destroying Pali terror once and for all, and not just in Gaza, Samaria, and Judea. The Arabs will be Transferred out. Syria will be cleaned out, the Bekaa valley will be cleaned out, and Boy Assad will be gone. You can also look for 75% of Syria becoming Kurdistan along the way. It's very easy to speak of what a sad thing the wall is from here in America, where you don't worry every day that family or friends could be killed, and when you're not calling them every week after the latest suicide bombing to make sure they're allright.

I'm afraid you're underestimating official Israel's patience and what it's willing to put up with. Believe me, even though I'm with you on decisively squelching Palestinian terror, I also know way too much about Israeli society, politics and government to be wrong on this count. I said it once and will repeat: in a saner world they would have been looked upon by official Israel with utter contempt. Part of the dismal reality, however, is that Israel is about to hand over to the PA tax moneys that were being withheld until recently. Any mixture of terorr and low intensity the Palis in Gaza and Judea-Samaria might use will NOT be met by drastic countermeasures such as mass artillery bombardments or carpet bombings. Much less transfer.

A friend went to Israel and asked what she could bring me back. I asked for photos of the "wall".
What I've learned:
1). The "wall" is designed to blend in to the topography and contours of the land whenever possible.
2). Israel is in the process of landscaping around it
3). The overall effect is much less jarring than our own highway soundwalls.
4). In many of the panoramic photos, the concrete portion of the "wall" is so well designed it blends in seamlessly with the land, and is hardly visible.
The propaganda photos that appear here and on other sites are simply that- propaganda. Once again, use your salt shaker liberally when reading this or any other media with a clear agenda.
What I've learned:

The facts that you can't deal with are rather simple. The security barrier has cut down Arab terror attacks. 95% is a fence. The parts that are high concrete walls are there as sniper barriers due to past Arab sniper attacks. And much of it is nicely landscaped and planted. If someone has a dispute as to a governmental taking of real property, the solution is the legal system, not terror. Get a lawyer, not a suicide vest.

The fact YOU are avoiding like the plague is that the wall would only fit your benign description if it were kept behind the Green Line. As it is, it's obviously integral to the settlements, the theft of groundwater, etc., etc. as part of a master plan of passive-aggressive theft.

The green line isn't a legal border. Its an Armestice line- a cease fire line- the borders were never resolved. Thats why these are the "disputed territories". And 80% of the barrier is within 3 miles of the Green Line, anyway.
The wall meanders to take into consideration the natural topography of the land- I didn't realize that until I saw the photos. It actually looks like Israel took great pains not to make this an eyesore (whenever possible, of course)

The Palis DO HAVE legal means of recourse in the image of the Supreme Court of Justice. At times it hands down rulings that force the hands of Israeli authorities to accomodate the Palis' needs. Why do you think the barrier's route has been altered through SCJ rulings? You're only pretending not to be aware of this. You're such lying, dishonest skulking rat!
