at a point where the police car was smashed, there were several ppl from the crowd throwing eggs (i heard afterwards going from several ppl to others) and a few rocks(?) at the cops who were guarding the backstage entrance and Powell decoy car. i wasn't able to take any pics of that as they were random and hard to capture.

That's pretty spectacular for a community college that isn't in San Francisco.
Interesting about the decoy car.
I remember in 1994 or 95 in Seattle, one of the first protests I attended had about 3000 people when Newt Gingrich was visiting a hotel conference during his Contract on America period. This was a really high turnout for the pre-WTO days when I believe large protests were quite rare (for instance, in radical politics, there were no detectable anarchists that I remember, and only the obnoxious RCP). We went to the hotel, and there were march monitors in green vests and the police put all this pressure on them, so they sort of herded everyone into a dense group in the underground parking, and had everyone sit down to sing at the conference guests. My friends and I left to go to the other side of the hotel, and there were no protesters on this side of the block, and we saw Newt Gingrich drive right up and go into a second underground parking entrance without seeing protesters.

Thanks for the fabulous photos! Many thanks!!
lets hope they start falling soon.im tired of chanted slogans of ''trhis is what a police state looks like''.40 years of slogans, no results
You can lighten the "gamma" in a photo-editing program.
Oftentimes, pix that look good on a Mac are too dark for a PC. Mac users should be aware of that, but then these might just be overly dark anyway.
If your camera allows it, you can also slow the shutter speed (to allow it to absorb more light in each shot) for better nighttime photos. Thing is that you have to use a tripod for that to work well without producing blurry photos.
I have enjoyed all of your coverage, though, and I look forward to more. Thank you.

hi,
glad you enjoyed them and thanks for the tip! i didn't even think of editing/lightening it up cause i was concerned with putting them all up. i'm including a lightened version on here.
but i'm wondering if anyone knows of a great free site where i can dump pictures such as these somewhere; a more efficient site that would enable me to upload several at once?
thanks!!

I was there but didnt take any pictures so Im so happy that I have yours to see, however I do have one problem, Im not in any of the photos! Anyway, thank you so much for all your work! You really captured that night of protesting.
the flickr site lets you upload and share photos easily.
The darkness of photos can be altered by anyone by adjusting the contrast on their monitor, but Macs might have a darker average preset value than PCs. Anybody who wants to see photos that appear dark could see them by adjusting their own computer though.
