GUMBO. KATRINA. ANTI-RACISM.
SHARE, EAT, DISCUSS!!!
Tuesday, September 27 @ 5:30 pm in the Fellowship main hall we will host Ms. Jyaphia Christos Rogers from New Orleans.
Phia is a member of the First UU Church of New Orleans and is an anti-racism trainer for the Unitarian Universalist Association. She is also a member of European Dissent, a white anti-racist organization that is part of the People’s Institute for Survival Beyond (PIFSB). PIFSB is a powerful community-organizing institute that focuses on issues of race and racism.
After preparing an authentic New Orleans meal for us, Phia will talk about the gulf crises and focus particularly on the issues of race.
This is a rare opportunity to talk with not only a New Orleanian, but with a white person whose life work has been devoted to fighting racism.
Please join us as we feast together, talk together, sharing from the heart and from our desire to make a difference for those suffering from this catastrophe. Jyaphia will offer real options for circumventing
the standard ways of giving “service” and will help us get in touch with the personal and relational realities that can make a difference to those suffering from this disaster in creative and meaningful ways.
Please call Rev. Kuhwald at the church so we will know how much Gumbo to cook for y’all. (510)-841-4824, Mail box # 1.
Paz,
Your Consulting Rev. Kurt Kuhwald
