A disgusted family leaves Ringling Circus once they read about the animal treatment.
Family is disgusted after learning about how the animals are treated at the Circus.
While handing out Circus information in San Jose on August 25th, a mother and daughter picked up a hand out and started to read how the animals were treated. We gave them some other supporting hand outs and the teenaged daughter was trying hard not to cry and no longer wanted to attend. The mother was also getting up as she read more and more about what really happens behind the scenes at Ringling Brothers Circus. They quickly met up with the husband and son/brother to leave after they decided they could not support tortured animals.

To D. Strauss:
When making a post like this one, it's important to include some background information, and especially a sample or quote from whatever literature/propaganda the article is refering to. A simple weblink would suffice, even if it's just to another posting here on indybay (at the bare minimum!), but as is, this post is pretty much useless. (And that's regardless of how a reader may feel about the poltical/moral issue at hand.)
Sorry....

Sorry....
The post WAS informative -- at least by implication.
It said that a (one) family was turned back as the informational work. It is of course POSSIBLE that many more did so and the people posting this are being modest. Also possible that it is so rare that ANYBODY about to enter the circus is turned aside by their efforts that it is newsworthy.

Our family won't go to the circus. After sharing materials with our ten year-old daughter, she had absolutely no interest in visiting the circus (thankfully). We'll go visit the animal rescue farm near Davis instead.
our family grew-up with the circus. And now, I have had the good fortune to work with the folks from Ringling on several occassions.... I am a stagehand, and my position is usually as a spotlight operator. I expect that there are some activities that may on occassion be questionable - but, there are also regular inspections and investigations.
It is unfortunate that man's lack of humanity - his actions towards other men, is carried over to his treatment of many of the habitats of these majestic animals and not just the animals. Many of which will/would not survive in the wild as man continues to demonstrate his superiority over the land rather than attempt to live in harmony with it.
