In the context of an African community facing school closures, festival shut-downs, no art and music programs, the sideshows are a culmination of their being no venues for self-expression and advancement for young African people. The city of Oakland is using the sideshows as the latest excuse to push black people out and make way for white corporations and homeowners who do not value African life.
